You may get asked why we describe all our toys as wooden when they are not all solid wood. The term ‘wooden’ can cover solid wood, MDF or Plywood as a catch all to separate them from plastic or other materials.

All our packaging and online descriptions clearly states exactly what type of wood a toy is made from – often it can be a combination.

Our solid wood is from different sustainable sources but is not all FSC certified. We use different woods for various reasons – maybe Lotus, Tulip or Beech. Some people do not think MDF is very sustainable or eco-friendly, but it is being discovered as a viable option – as it is formed from waste by-product of solid wood. All our MDF is made using non-toxic glues. All our paints used on wooden toys are safe and child friendly.

Recycling of solid wooden items varies by council but typically if stained or painted it cannot be recycled. MDF and plywood recycling is available in trial centres in the UK - but unless a toy is broken it is much better to hand it on to charity or friends or family for the most sustainable approach.
