When we approve the size of our clothes, we give our suppliers a tolerance for all measurements as the items are cut, sewn and finished by hand - they will struggle to maintain total uniformity on every item they make. On this product on the length the tolerance is +/-1cm, the same as with the leggings.

In the case of two pack trousers or leggings, each item could have been made on different sewing lines, or on a different day. They are made from different fabrics that move in different ways. If any of you have seen Sewing Bee then you know how tricky it is to get things to line up - even if it is your job day in and day out.

We absolutely do specify to suppliers that they need to have quality control on the sewing line, we tell them they need to match sizing within the pair in packing and we do a final quality check on a sample of production.

However, it is feasible that one could be shorter and one longer within the pack (both within tolerance) and we don't see it properly until it's hung up.

Trousers or leggings with a difference of a couple of centimetres are not cause to reject the product. You should not be splitting out the items to sell singly or adjusting the stock to faulty.

You could try and hang it so they look more consistent so you get fewer customer queries but it won’t have any real negative effect when it’s worn by a child.

We rely upon you to explain to the customer that it really doesn’t matter - they are not worn at the same time and a couple of cm on a child’s leg usually is not an issue.

These are some of the key words that bring up additional information for you on the QC database.

MISS MATCHED   SIZING

If items made   from two pieces into sets or pairs are completely miss sized then please   follow the standard QC assessment process - e.g. if it is one pair of PJ's   with a 6-12 top and a 5-6yrs bottom it is faulty but you do not need to log a   ticket. If your whole delivery is a mess then please log a General ticket. If   you have 2 pairs of leggings in a 2-pack with slightly different lengths then   this is NOT faulty. Please explain to the team and the customer that there   are tolerances within manufacturing and we have found these acceptable to   sell. One pair may be slightly shorter or longer than the other but they are both   suitable for the age of the child.

LENGTHS

Lengths can vary   within production and are guidelines only. Maternity wear can be graded for  lengths so can vary a little by size. With some childrenswear sizing breaks there is often only 1-2cm difference in a length. If you allow tolerance on that and perhaps an 18-24mth top is 1cm too long (acceptable and going to happen in clothing manufacturing) and the 2-3yrs top is 1cm too small they   may appear the same length. They are not faulty, usually both can be worn by   the right age child perfectly correctly. See also Miss Matched leggings.

We are aware the QC database is not very user friendly at the moment and are working on improving on it but there really is a lot of information on there for you if you have a chance to use it.

If the lengths are more than 4cm apart then please log a ticket for us to check stocks.
