A branded synthetic elastic polyurethane fibre or fabric used to give a great stretch and recovery (i.e. it goes back to its original shape after being stretched) – especially for close-fitting sports clothing. We most commonly use a non-branded elastic fibre called Elastane (Spandex in USA) which gives a similar level of stretch and performance.
Generic Lycra is called Elastane in the UK and US and Spandex in the US - note they are the same fibre and both terms permitted. We only use Lycra when we buy the branded fibre.
